As we’re approaching our fifth anniversary I’m pleased to announce a new short story competition to showcase the best of Asian writing. We’re looking for short stories of up to 3,000 words in length on any theme but which include the word five. Winning entries will be presented in a published collection. £15 per entry, max three. Charles Pick South Asian Fellowship

Charles Pick  South Asian Fellowship –  Award £10,000
The Charles Pick Fellowship is a six-month residential creative writing fellowship with an award of £10,000. The fellowship will begin October 1st 2012.
The Charles Pick South Asian Fellowship seeks to encourage the spirit of writing by giving support to the work of a new and, as yet, unpublished writer of fictional or non-fictional prose based in South Asia. The SI Leeds Literary Prize is a new prize for unpublished fiction by Black and Asian women resident in the UK aged 18 years and over.
The prize aims to act as a loudspeaker for Black and Asian women’s voices, enabling fresh and original literary voices from a group disproportionately under-represented in mainstream literary culture to reach new audiences.
The inaugural prize will be awarded in October 2012, and will consist of:

£2,000 to the winner
£750 to the runner-up
£250 as a third prize

Commonwealth Writers – a world of new fiction

Commonwealth Foundation is inviting entries for the new Commonwealth Short Story Prize.  The prizes are part of a new initiative, Commonwealth Writers, an online hub to inspire, inform and create a community of writers from all over the world.

The Asian Writer New Writing Competition is for: poems of up to 40 lines, max of three; fiction of up to 1200 words, max of three entries per person.
It is particularly aimed at encouraging British Asian writers.

Wasafiri New Writing Prize 2011

Now in its third year, Wasafiri New Writing Prize 2011 is inviting entries from unpublished writers.  The competition is open to anyone worldwide who has not published a complete book. Creative submissions can be made in one of three categories: Poetry, Fiction or Life Writing.

This year’s judges include Daljit Nagra, Brian Chikwava, Jackie Kay and founding editor of Wasafiri, Susheila Nasta
Entry fee: £6 for one category, £10 for two, and £15 for three

Writers of Pakistani origin are invited to submit to Life’s Too Short Story Prize.

GRASSROUTES: Contemporary Leicestershire Writing is an Arts Council funded project based at the School of English in the University of Leicester.

GRASSROUTES promotes public knowledge of Leicestershire’s diverse literary cultures. It fosters local, national and international appreciation of quality transcultural writing in the county.

Unpublished and self published novels are being invited to enter the 2011 Amazon Breakthrough Novel.
The competition will award two grand prizes: one for general fiction and one for young adult fiction. Each winner will receive a publishing contract with Penguin, which includes a $15,000 advance.

The 2011 Commonwealth Short Story Competition will open for entry via the online entry form from 15 January to 1 March 2011. Entries should be original, unpublished, in English and no more than 600 words in length. Entries can be on any subject, but there will be a special award for entries relating to the 2011 Commonwealth theme, ‘Women as Agents of Change’ and a special award for a short story for children.
