The Asian Writer provides a unique platform for new and emerging writers of British and South Asian origin. As the UK’s only publication dedicated to South Asian literature we value your contribution, and welcome your suggestions to ensure our content remains at the forefront of debate; to be the place to share ideas and experiences.

We encourage everyone in the industry to engage with us – from publishers to literary agents, writers to readers. We’re interested in hearing your unique perspective – whether you’re a newbie just writing your first story or someone who has successfully sold South Asian writing worldwide.   Our aim is to stay truly relevant and useful to our readership and in this spirit we’re keen to commission pieces from anyone who is involved in South Asian literature.

Our editorial team is always on hand to help you put your ideas on to paper and polish your thoughts. As a journal of new writing we’re always happy for you to submit your fiction pieces too, whether it be a short story, novel extract or poem.

Features send us your original idea for forthcoming features. We welcome suggestions too, even when you don’t wish to write the article yourself. If you’re working on a groundbreaking new project that you feel would suit our audience please tell us about it in 200 words.

Book reviews no more than 750 words for full length non fiction titles and novels, 500 words for novellas, self published books and poetry collections.

Blogs, first person opinion/ think pieces max. 800 words.
Essays max. 1500 words
Fiction max. 3500 words

Poetry no more than six poems for consideration at one time
Videos: max 10 minutes
 Podcasts: max 60 minutes

Payment
As we’re producing this magazine free of charge, we aren’t in a position to offer payment to our contributors. However, we can offer to raise your profile, and help you to reach wider audiences. All contributors are listed in our contributors page, and articles include a short biography, a recent image and a link to their blog/website.

GUIDELINES

Submit via email editor@theasianwriter.co.uk with ‘The Asian Writer submission’  in the subject heading. Please ensure that your writing is in a .doc file or in the body of an email and typed in no bigger than 12pt Times New Roman, 1.5 spaced.

Do not send us multiple attachments or any images bigger than 10MB.

Include your name, full contact details including a contact number. Please attach a short biography with web links to your current work (if applicable) and a recent picture.

Work is often edited before it is published. We may publish your writing on our website and/or in future printed editions.

REVIEWS

Books

The Asian Writer is happy to consider forthcoming titles for review from publicity teams and self published writers. Please send review copies six weeks in advance of publication. Email editor@theasianwriter.co.uk for a postal address. We do our utmost best to review everything sent to us, but cannot guarantee this.

Events: Theatre, Book Launches, Author Talks, Prizes

We are happy to accept invitations to events, including theatre productions on press night, book launches, author talks and prize ceremonies.
