The Asian Writer Short Story Prize set out to discover and recognise the best writing talent emerging from the UK and beyond. The Five Degrees anthology launch took place last Saturday at this year’s South Asian Literature Festival at Bush Theatre. Eight writers long listed in this year’s collection (Deepa Anappara, Mahsuda Snaith, Jocelyn Watson, Amna Khokher, Priya Kanchandani, Sharmila Chauhan, Nilopar Uddin, Yangya Valkya Misra) joined me on stage, and host, Bidisha to read and discuss their work. It was a brilliant evening and this year’s collection reflects the quality of writing emerging from new Asian writers, so congratulations to all the longlisted writers and everybody who dared to enter. We hope to annouce details of our next competition in the New Year.
Five Degrees is available to purchase at the special discount price of just £5 plus £1 p&p until the end of the month. You can buy your copy here.
The collection has been featured on the SALF website and over at the NRI. It has been reviewed by Red Hot Curry. What did marketing guru and avid reader, Lopa Patel make of it? Find out here.
